To encourage critical thinking about themselves, what kind of questions should children be encouraged to ask of themselves? The best way is to encourage them to ask themselves hypothetical questions that require their answers, instead of a parent or teacher asking and (many times answering) the question.
Why did I do that?” Not, “Why did you do that?” “What could I have done better or differently?” Not, “What could you have done differently?” “What help or information could I have used to make a better decision?” Not, “What help, or information could you have used to make a better decision?” “What adjustments do I need to make?” Not, “What adjustments do you need to make?”
