Just like you, the reality is that the overwhelming majority of the important questions your children will be faced with in their future are of an ambiguous and subjective nature. Furthermore, they will not know if their choice of an answer – in reality an educated guess, speculation, thought-experiment, or hypothesis – was right or wrong until time has passed.
So, the downside risks and the upside potential to addressing subjective issues are magnified. This puts a premium on making sure that the most educated and best informed guess possible is made in advance. “Is that the right college?” “Is that the right house?” “Is that the right insurance policy, car, candidate for office, engineering plan, house or spouse?”
The good news is that children know how to question, and in so doing refine their decision-making.
