Empathy is a magical ability. It allows your child to actually see through someone else’s eyes. Imagine being able to consider things from another’s point of view. Imagine being able to guess what others believe. And imagine being able to mostly get it right. Imagine being able to hold another person’s ideas in your mind, and not agree with them. Aristotle said that this is the essence of being human.
Children are born with this magical ability. Nurture it by getting them to understand the gift and be proud of their magical properties, and to practice, practice, practice.
