All animals think to some extent. But which high-order, cognitive, functions do your child’s Brain/Mind perform when thinking that no other animal can? They can: Anticipate problems. Analyze alternative solutions to problems. Solve problems. Overcome obstacles. Think about the future, Think about thinking (metacognition). Create original ideas. Think about concrete ideas such as people or places or things. Think about abstract ideas such as beauty, truth, goodness, or justice. Manipulate their environment. Tolerate ambiguity. Hypothesize, speculate, and conjecture. Think in color. Use thinking to ensure freedom of choice. Stand outside of themselves and observe themselves. And develop a Justified Belief. Your toddlers can do most of that. Schools do not encourage it however.

Children are highly-evolved thinking machines. Just stand and cheer.
